Discus Food Mix

What you need:

750 g  cod, pollock, hake, etc. Skinned fillets

250g of shrimp

250g of  mussle meat

150g of salmon, tuna or mackerel. Skinned and boned

150g of boiled baby spinach or nettles.

1 egg yolk

3 cloves of garlic, mashed up into a paste

3 ground-up multivitamin tablets ( not the flavoured ones )

2 tablespoons of mild paprika powder

A food blender and zip-lock bags

Method :

Cut all the solid ingredients into very small pieces before you put them into the blender. Drain all ingredients that might have been frozen.

Spoon the mix into the zip-lock bags and press flat to a thickness of about 5 mm. Keep in the freezer.

There has been much discussion recently regarding the feeding of beefheart to discus. I do not want to get into it here but I do not feed it to my fish because I believe that discus cannot digest the fats of warm blooded animals such as cows or turkey.

You can add your own ingredients to my mix. If you want to increase the red colouration in your fish, add some astaxanthin. This will not harm your fish since astaxanthin is an anti-oxidant several times more powerful than vitamin E.

You can also add some finely chopped garden worms if you have new fish that refuse to feed.
